The Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center is proud to present the 6th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 6 – 8 p.m. This event is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the rich cultural heritage and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx individuals in our region.

From Spanish explorers, to Mexican traders and laborers, to recent Central and South American immigrants, the Kansas City region has deep Latino history. Today, the Latino community is Johnson County’s fastest growing population. National Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to honor the cultures and contributions of Latino Americans across the United States.

“It is with great honor and pride for JCPRD to host the 6th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. Thanks to our many partners and support from AdventHealth, the event will be a wonderful celebration recognizing the rich heritage and many contributions of the Hispanic and Latino community,” said JCPRD Executive Director Jeff Stewart.

The Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration will feature a diverse array of activities and performances, and Crystal Hernandez of KCTV5 serving as emcee:

  • Performances by Mariachi Estrella KC, Alma Tapatia, and Voces Festivas.
  • Free admission to the Johnson County Museum and KidScape.
  • A special Walk and Read from Johnson County Library.
  • Bike displays from the Olathe Leadership Lowrider Bike Club.
  • Healthy ingredients and cooking resources from El Centro’s Promotoras de Salud.
  • A proclamation from the Johnson County Board of Commissioners.
  • Job fair presented by La Mega KC.
  • Food available for purchase from El Pulgarcito.
  • A papel picado community art project – fun for the entire family!

This event is hosted by the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center and Johnson County Park and Recreation District with the support of many community partners: El Centro, Johnson County Library, Johnson County Museum, La Mega KC, and Olathe Leadership Lowrider Bike Club. Special thanks to our sponsor, AdventHealth, for making this celebration possible.

"It's an honor to sponsor this annual celebration that commemorates the contributions of the Hispanic community, especially those made in service to healthcare,” said Sam Huenergardt, president and CEO of AdventHealth Mid-America Region. “We proudly employ and celebrate Hispanic and Latinx team members across our entire region and are grateful for their ability to create an inclusive care environment for our patients who may be from similar cultures and speak the same language."

This event is free and open to the public.
