55th Annual Sorghum Festival at Meeks Park in Blairsville GA

Festival Activities

Sorghum Syrup:

The main event!! Enjoy a biscuit and watch while the syrup is made. Sorghum syrup is made from the green juice of the sorghum plant, which is extracted from the crushed stalks and then heated to steam off the excess water leaving the syrup behind.  

Demonstrations:

Watch the magic happen.  See how things are made, learn about lost arts and even join in the fun and try it yourself.

Arts & Crafts Vendors:

Enjoy a wide variety of handmade arts and crafts vendors.  Support local small businesses including jewelry, soaps & lotions, clothing, wood and metal works and many more!

Games & Activities:

Watch and join in on some good old mountain past times. Activities will include log sawing, pole climbing, rock throwing, horseshoe throwing, and more!

Games Schedule:

Old time games begin each Saturday and Sunday at 1:00pm. The time-line for each game following the biscuit eatin' contest is determined by audience participation.

1:00 pm - Sorghum Syrup Biscuit Eatin' Contest
you must be 16 or older

Rock Throwin'
- 10 years old and under
- 11 to 15 years old
- 16 years old and up

Pole Climbin'
- any age

Log Sawin'
- 2 person team, must be 16 years old and up

Horseshoe Throwin' 2 shoes 2 throws
- 16 years old & up

2024 Sorghum Festival Parade

This year's parade will be on October 12, 2024 at 10:00 AM rain or shine! The same route as last year will be followed. We are Calling All Churches, Civic Organizations, School Clubs, Businesses, and Families... get those floats, trucks, wagons, costumes, tractors, and more ready! Let's make this the BIGGEST PARADE ever! The theme for this year's parade is "All Things Autumn." Everyone come out and show your support for the BEST fall parade around. There will be 1st, 2nd, 3rd and GRAND place winners for the floats in the parade. The prizes will be a donation in your name to the charity of your choice.

The prizes are as follows:

Grand Winner - $500

1st - $300
2nd -$200
3rd - $100
