Reimagining Du Bois: Data Portraits and Contemporary Print with William Villalongo, Shraddha Ramani and Tiffany Barber

Artist William Villalongo and urbanist Shraddha Ramani talk with scholar and curator Tiffany Barber about their collaborative portfolio Printing Black America: Du Bois’s Data Portraits in the 21st Century in which the duo reimagines W.E.B. Du Bois’s iconic 1900 data visualizations that explained institutionalized racism to the world. These transformed visualizations recast Du Bois's distillations and interrogate contemporary Black life. The production of the prints was shared across six print publishers, including Powerhouse Arts Printshop.
Relief X Screenprint: Commemorative Poster Demonstration with Carlos Hernandez and Bill Fick
1–2pm in MGC Community Print Studio (5th Fl)
Carlos Hernandez, Director of Burning Bones Press in Houston, Texas, and Bill Fick of Super G Print Lab in Durham, North Carolina, will demonstrate how they collaborate on a commemorative poster using screenprinting and linocut. They’ll discuss and show how they work together to generate designs that celebrate their cross-country Printmaking Roadshow. Limited edition preprinted posters commemorating the inaugural Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair will be available for free.

This demonstration is first-come, first-served with a capacity of 20-25 people to ensure everyone has a clear sightline. No tickets are required.
Creating an Evil Print with Tom Hück

Evil Prints’s Tom Hück will demonstrate carving and printing one of his monumental, intricate, and searing woodcuts. The event will operate on a first-come, first-served basis with a capacity of 20-25 attendees to ensure good sight lines. No tickets are required.
Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair tours with master printer Phil Sanders

Enjoy a private tour of the Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair with master printer Phil Sanders who will introduce you to a selection of print fair exhibitors. Along the way he’ll talk to you about the printmaking ecosystem, why collecting is easy and fun, offer a bit of technical information, and take a deep dive into specific prints. If anyone can help you fall in love with your next acquisition, it’s Phil Sanders.
Tours are free with entry, but each is limited to 20 participants and spots are first-come, first served. Meet in the Grand Hall near the main lounge.
