In preparing for the Charleston Museum’s newest historic textile exhibit, Lovely & Lethal: Killer Fashions from the Collection, it was important to strike a tone between the menacing and the macabre. The potential objects in the collection were abundant for some sections of the exhibit, like mother of pearl fans. For other sections, such as Arsenic-laced fashions, finding the right objects to display became a little bit trickier.
Inevitably, not every piece from the collection made it into this special exhibit. In a returning series exclusively for Society Level Members of the Charleston Museum, we invite you to join us for an evening with Curator of Historic Textiles Virginia Theerman as she unveils which objects from the historic textiles collection almost made the cut. Theerman will discuss the process of selecting items for an exhibit and provide an up-close look at collection pieces including fancy furs, 19th century fans, and shades of not-quite Arsenic green.
Participants must be able to climb stairs. Beverages and light hors d’oeuvres will be available.
Registration is required. Register online or call 843.722.2996 ext. 235
