Judith Abraham

Judith Abraham is a sculptor and mixed media artist. She moved to the valley in 1980 and became part of the vibrant lesbian community living in Northampton.

She was inspired to make the Mad Wimmin Bookstore from the comic Dykes to Watch Out For because it is reminiscent of so many women's bookstores that cropped up all over the country during the 1980's and 90's. A history of this era can be found in Allison Bechdel's graphic memoir Dykes To Watch Out For. It also is a reflection of the history of the lesbian community in Northampton during that time.
