Sunday, Nov 9, 2025 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm
The evolution of the piano from the earliest four octave instruments to today’s 9-foot concert grands occurred over a period of about 200 years. Classical music evolved in tandem, and Giocosa Chamber Music’s November program examines the rapid and important changes in both through the lens of the piano trio.
Giocosa’s pianists Steven Mann and Ray Wong will be joined by Heather Goodchild Wade (violin) and Elizabeth Schultze (cello) to present music that spans the Classical, Romantic and Contemporary periods. From Beethoven’s very first published work - the Piano Trio in E-flat, Op. 1 #1 - through Anton Arensky’s Piano Trio #1 in D minor and living superstar composer Elena Kats-Chernin’s 2009 trio Calliope Dreaming, this program demonstrates how the evolution of the piano mirrors that of classical music.
Performances take place on Saturday November 8 at 3 pm at Thacher Hall in Yarmouth Port, and on Sunday November 9 at 3 pm at the First Congregational Church of Chatham. For tickets and the season’s complete lineup, visit giocosachambermusic.com.
Founded in 2018, Giocosa Chamber Music is a year-round chamber music series whose concerts are infused with virtuosity, integrity, and relevance for a modern audience.
