The goal of the Newport Irish Heritage Month calendar is to include "All things Irish" that will be occurring in the Newport, Rhode Island area throughout March. This includes events sponsored by organizations that promote Irish heritage, culture, and history, including the Museum of Newport Irish History, the sponsor of this calendar, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. A complete list of participating organizations and businesses may be found at the end of this document.

Schedule Of events

Guided Tours of Fort Adams: 90 Fort Adams Drive, Newport. Take a guided tour of the historic Newport fort constructed with Irish labor between 1824-1857. Hour-long tours will be offered at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., on Saturdays and Sundays in March -- except Sat. March 16/Parade Day and Sun. Mar. 31/Easter -- weather permitting. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for Youth (ages 6-17), Free for Children 5 and under. $5 off individual tickets when mentioning Irish Heritage Month. "The Irish in America" Concert at Newport Public Library, 300 Spring Street, Newport. 2:30 p.m. Join Celtic harpist Mary King and guitarist Ed Sweeney for this musical journey. Get your green on, warm up your voices, and enjoy the warmth, spirit and hilarity of the ‘Irish in America.". Free and open to all. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner, sponsored by the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH). Doors open 4:30 p.m. Dinner served at 5:00 p.m. Location: St. Augustin’s Church Hall, corner Carroll Ave. and Harrison Ave., Newport. Enter church hall (basement of the church) via Eastnor Road entrance, adjacent to church parking lot. Live performances: Irish step-dancing, AOH Pipe Band, LAOH Singers. Raffles, 50/50 raffle, silent auction, and delicious desserts. A fundraiser for LAOH’s local charitable giving initiatives. Tickets are $40 (meal) or $10 child (hot dogs and chips). BYOB. "Shamrocks and Shenanigans" A St. Paddy's Celebration for a Cause. 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. VFW Post 5390, 822 Anthony Road, Portsmouth. Celebrate St. Paddy's Day! Enjoy live music by "Moment's Notice," basket raffles, and light food while supporting Portsmouth students going to Ireland to study agriculture and STEM. Tickets: $10.
