Instructor Artist: Kristy Colbert
About the Instructor
Kristy Colbert is a mixed media artist based in Leverett, MA, drawing inspiration from rural life and travels. Specializing in painted paper collages, they blend realism with abstraction, embracing spontaneity over perfection. Using recycled junk mail, gouache, pencil, and Neocolor crayons, their work becomes a meditative act of hope and repair—piecing together fragments to reveal beauty in chaos. Through their playful, textured creations, they share the joy and resilience that art brings.
Step into the whimsical world of painted paper collage with Kristi Colbert. Everyone can do it! In this engaging workshop, you’ll playfully create your own papers using a variety of mediums and application techniques. From this paper, you’ll cut and assemble imaginative works of bees and flowers, or whatever strikes your fancy, learning to approximate color, texture, and composition to get a painterly, expressive, and illustrative aesthetic through collage. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with at least one small, framable piece of work and/or a handmade greeting card(s). Participants may create as many pieces as they wish. No two collages are ever the same!
Refreshments will be provided, and the gallery will be open for you to explore. Don’t miss this fun and creative experience! Cheers!
