Why shear? Sheep were domesticated over 10,000 years ago, and their wool grows continuously. Shearing wool is important for a sheep’s long-term health, comfort, safety and overall well-being. If a sheep is not shorn, that sheep risks overheating, skin conditions and mobility issues. Just imagine what it would be like to wear a heavy wool coat all summer long! Shearing keeps sheep cool in the warmer months and reduces the risk of parasitic infestation and disease. Shearers are highly trained professionals who are adept at handling the animals; they complete the process carefully and swiftly so the sheep can get back to their flock - and flaunt their new ‘do!
