Storyteller Donald Davis was born and raised in a Southern Appalachian mountain world rich in stories. He heard many traditional stories about Jack and other heroic characters. However, he was most attracted to the stories of his own family and places of origin.  Davis began retelling the stories he heard while growing up. Then he began adding his twists to them until he was repeatedly asked to “tell it again, on purpose.”

During his twenty-five-year career as a United Methodist Minister, Donald Davis began to use stories more often.  He was also asked to perform at festivals and in other settings until he retired from the church to tell stories full-time. Why?  The answer is simple – Donald Davis is a master of the interactive art of using words and actions to reveal the elements and images of a story while encouraging listener’s imaginations.

Donald Davis has authored eighteen books and produced over forty original recordings. Storyteller Donald Davis is the recipient of the Circle of Excellence and the Lifetime Achievement Awards from the National Storytelling Network.
