To mark our 10th- anniversary many famous traditional Islamic Art experts are visiting the festival. These include illumination artist Behnaz Karjoo from New York, Geometric art expert Jennifer Usman from Chicago, Geometer and ceramic artist Paul Barchilon from Colorado, and Calligrapher Moina Sajjad from Dallas. Islamic Arts Society aims to share the rich heritage of Islamic Arts. The society organizes events to celebrate Islamic culture and promote the positive image of the Muslim community. Art is a common language and binds diverse communities. By promoting Islamic arts, we hope to promote mutual understanding and bring the broader American community together.
In an effort to build bridges between communities, we organize art events in libraries and museums and host Islamic art education days as well as lectures and classes in schools and colleges. The main event is the annual Islamic Arts Festival which has been held annually since 2014 and even during Covid-19 when we took the festival online. The festival brings people of all ages, ethnicities, and faiths for a weekend of fun, festivity, and learning.
During the two-day festival, visitors will have the opportunity to see the work of artists who will be available in person. They will be able to browse through our festival hall and purchase magnificent pieces of art for their homes. Visitors will also be able to take part in interactive art sessions, learn about Islamic art and culture, as well as enjoy ethnic cuisine from food trucks. In addition, there will be live demonstrations on calligraphy, henna tattoos, Ebru, painting, Arabesque pattern coloring, and lots of children’s art activities. The Museum of Fine Arts Houston and The Children’s Museum of Houston will be overseeing the children’s art programs.
