There are events for all ages - adults, kids, teens and families - and most are absolutely free.

Kickoff this annual week-long clean up event at Fountain Creek Nature Center!  We’ll clean the trails, woods, and creek in the park.  

9:30am: Paint Mines Interpretive Hike - Paint Mines Interpretive Park, 29950 Paint Mine Rd, Calhan, CO 80808
Paint Mines guided hikes will occur every other Saturday and will cover topics such as the geology, ecology, and human history of the site. Our amazing interpreters will show you around the park and the fascinating rock features while they share with you their vast knowledge of the area . They will even bring out some of the amazing artifacts and fossils that have been found and we have protected for everyone to see.

Please make sure to wear durable closed-toe shoes and bring a filled water bottle. These hikes will be approximately two hours in length and you will be walking up to two miles on uneven and unpaved surfaces for the entire length of the hike.

Our biggest event of the year!  It's STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) on steroids, featuring dozens of exciting and educational science shows, demonstrations, lab tours and hands-on activities for kids, primarily K-8th grades, but fun for the whole family!

12:00pm: Chemistry of Fermentation & Winery Tour - Evergood Adventure Wines, 613 County Line Rd Unit L, Palmer Lake, CO 80133

Making wine is all about chemistry!  You're invited to a fascinating look into the Chemistry of Fermentation at the Evergood winery in Palmer Lake, CO.  Each 60-minute tour includes an explanation of the process of fermenting wine - we happen to ferment citrus fruits! 

Every 21+ guest enjoys a free flight of "adult lemonades" during the tour.  Cool Science guests had a blast and brought great questions at these tours last year!

Join Challenger Colorado for a crash course in 3D printing and a planetarium show. Families will learn the basics of designing for a 3D print. Then, while their take home project is printed, families will be treated to a Colorado Sky Tonight planetarium show. Each session is 60 minutes.

10:00am: Cool Science Festival Family Friendly Bats & Cave Tour - Cave of the Winds Mountain Park, 100 Cave of the Winds Rd, Manitou Springs, CO 80829

Explore the electrically lit portion of Cave of the Winds on a guided walking tour which includes 15 rooms, a 1/2 mile of concrete walkways, and 196 stairs. On this family-friendly tour, you will learn about the history and geology of the cave and see some of the most beautiful formations. This is a special tour geared toward kindergarten through 5th grade but anyone can join!  You will explore the inside of Temple Mountain at Cave of the Winds Mountain Park and more!

4:00pm: Clay Exploration: Spoon Rests - Pikes Peak Library District - Sand Creek Library, 1821 S Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO

Join us and experiment with clay at the Sand Creek Library Makerspace in a two-part class. In part one you will learn how to shape a project out of clay, and in part two you will learn how to glaze it. Take your finished creation home to enjoy at the end of the month.
