From: CineNoir: Black Voices in FilmThe Shreveport-Bossier region is home to a majority African American population, along with representation from many other corners of the African diaspora. This diverse group provides an abundance of economic, social, and cultural wealth to our communities. The direct and indirect influence of black and brown culture can be felt through so many dimensions of life in Louisiana, including food, music, dance, literature, and film. CineNoir is for cinephiles and casual movie-goers alike from all walks of life, and it will offer meaningful discourse on the art of filmmaking while showcasing the rich creative breadth of black cinema.
This series will showcase two major types of films. Our local black filmmakers will curate a selection of the movies that inspired them and provide insight into their cultural and personal importance. They will also showcase their own work, through feature films, documentaries, and shorts. This series will not only help our community celebrate Black History Month, but it will also further Robinson Film Center’s mission to Educate, Enrich, and Entertain the region through film.
