The 2024 season features eclectic orchestral and chamber music performances, Gateway series concerts, special events, outdoor concerts, the continuation of GTMF’s opera initiative and free community events.

Hole Food Rescue’s Sprout Mobile provides free healthy lunches for children and families in easily accessible parks and community centers.

All ensembles feature members of the Festival Orchestra, made up of 250+ exceptional musicians from 84 orchestras and 72 institutions of higher learning. Third Coast Percussion’s Think Outside the Drum program is a fun, interactive and educational presentation for all ages. Families will learn about the building blocks of music through active participation in a series of activities including clapping, singing and a listening game.

2:30 PM - 3:30 PM: 2024 Scholarship Competition Semi-Finals

The Grand Teton Music Festival is proud to present the 7th Annual Scholarship Competition in honor of Music Director Sir Donald Runnicles. The competition is open to graduating high school seniors from Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana who will pursue their primary studies in music (classical, jazz or other) at an accredited four-year college with a music program recognized by the National Association of Schools of Music, or a conservatory with a widely recognized national profile such as The Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, or the New England Conservatory. Three scholarships are awarded: $10k, $15k and $25k.

The competition will begin with a preliminary round of pre-screen audition videos submitted via video link. GTMF adjudicators will select six semi-finalists from the pool of pre-screens. These semi-finalists will be invited to perform for a panel of three professional musician judges at Walk Festival Hall in Jackson Hole, WY.

The semi-finals and finals are free and open to the public.

Maestro Donald Runnicles leads the Festival Orchestra in a musical tour of England. From the boisterous streets of London Town to the timeless green pastures of the countryside, the sounds of Britain will fill Walk Festival Hall on a program that includes the GTMF debut of renowned soloist Amihai Grosz, principal violist of the Berlin Philharmonic.

Join us for a pre-concert talk at 6 PM with GTMF Resident Conductor Benjamin Manis in the Barbara Furrer Goodman Memorial Garden near Walk Festival Hall’s north entrance. Talks are sponsored by the Goodman Family Foundation, in memory of Roy and Barbara Goodman.

Garrick Ohlsson, piano

GRAMMY-winning pianist Garrick Ohlsson recorded all of Beethoven’s Piano Concertos with the GTMF Orchestra, conducted by Sir Donald Runnicles, in July 2022 (Reference Recordings). Hear him in recital at the intimate Walk Festival Hall.

Ohlsson will perform a program of Beethoven piano sonatas, including the famous and mesmerizing “Moonlight” Sonata.

A collaboration between pianist/composer Conrad Tao and choreographer/dancer Caleb Teicher, the duo explores the harmonic and rhythmic counterpoint between their artistic traditions, driving the imagination and opening the heart. The stylistically diverse music of Counterpoint includes the Aria from Bach’s Goldberg Variations and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, plus music by Brahms, Mozart, Ravel and more.

Teton Music School’s Summer Strings Camp for middle school students will be visited by a GTMF string quartet for a special performance and clinic instruction. Students will be invited to a Chamber Music concert and Open Rehearsal, ending with a performance.

GTMF On the Road brings live classical music to audiences in Teton County and surrounding communities through free concerts presented in partnership with community organizations in welcoming locations.

All ensembles feature members of the Festival Orchestra, made up of 250+ exceptional musicians from 84 orchestras and 72 institutions of higher learning. Stoner Family Education Curator Meaghan Heinrich leads programs that are accessible to all ages and bring the music to life with explanations and demonstrations.

A night in Vienna, without the waltzes. GTMF Music Director Donald Runnicles conducts legendary works by two of history’s greatest symphonists. Austrian masters Haydn and Mahler are featured on a program that will highlight the range and virtuosity of the Festival Orchestra and remind us that no film can capture the drama of live performance.

Join us for a pre-concert talk at 5 PM with Stoner Family Education Curator Meaghan Heinrich in the Barbara Furrer Goodman Memorial Garden near Walk Festival Hall’s north entrance. Talks are sponsored by the Goodman Family Foundation, in memory of Roy and Barbara Goodman.

“The king and queen of the banjo,” married couple Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn will perform pieces from their GRAMMY-winning self-titled debut as well as their newer record, Echo in the Valley. Fleck is a 15-time GRAMMY Award winner who has taken the banjo across genres, and Washburn is a singer-songwriter and clawhammer banjo player who re-radicalized it by combining it with Far East culture and sounds.

Coombs Outdoors and GTMF have partnered to create access to music lessons and opportunities for Coombs Outdoors participants. The two local nonprofits have worked together to launch a summer-long program, the Coombs Ukulele Club, that offers Ukulele lessons to Coombs participants once a week for the duration of the summer, followed by a public performance.

Bartók’s provocative Miraculous Mandarin Suite and a US premiere round out the concert.
