From: The Invisible Dog Art CenterDear Friends,
On this beautiful day - sun, breeze, birds tweeting - I can't help humming this french song from Les Negresses Vertes, Voilà l'été, Voilà l'été... / Here's summer, Here's summer.
Summer means beaches and we are so lucky to live in a city surrounded by beautiful beaches, all accessible by public transportation ($2.75): Coney Island in Brooklyn, Rockaway and Riis in Queens, Cedar Glove on Staten Island, Orchard Beach in the Bronx and many more. Take a train and relax a couple of hours watching the horizon. And if you can't go to the beach, look at Sophie Fenwick and Pauline Vermare's beautiful book, New York Waterfront Diary.
I wish I could move The Invisible Dog on the beach shore for the summer... An idea to think about for the future but for now, let's stay at our beloved Bergen street location where I invite you to spend days and evenings with us.
There will be Pride, on June 8, an event hosted by our partner KULE and co-host by illustrator Grace Miceli. The event is from 5 to 8pm and 20% of the sales of that evening will be donated to Ali Forney Center.
The Ali Forney Center was founded in 2002 in memory of Ali Forney, a homeless gender-nonconforming youth who was forced to live on the streets, where they were tragically murdered. Committed to saving the lives of LGBTQ+ young people, its mission is to protect them from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to live independently.
There will be music with Talea Ensemble's unique and exceptional concert on Friday June 9 celebrating brilliant contemporary composers.
There will be food, cakes, pastries and flavorsome dishes, on Saturday June 17 for Andrea Sham's Sensational Gastronomic Journey in the garden of The Invisible Dog. Sham is a pastry artist, currently in residency at la Salle A Manger (SAM) and she is going to prepare some wonders for you all to devour. Full disclosure, I will be Andrea's sous-chef. Book your spot right now, it's a very limited number of guests.
I want to thanks MOFAD, Perrier and L'Imprimerie for being marvelous partners of the event.
One the same day, from 6 to 7 pm, artists Raphaël-Bachir Osman and Candice Chemel invite you to "fare la scarpetta", this gesture made after eating a delicious dish when the bread dances on the surface of the plate. I can't tell you yet what sauces will be prepared but they promise to be delicious.
There will be shopping with FAD Market ans their summer residency. Check out their extraordinary makers presented in June and July
And of course, there will be art, with the School of Visual Arts (SVA) MFA Art Practice exhibition by thesis candidates Alison Pasquini, C Fodoreanu, Heather Link-Bergman, Janine Brown, Laura Valentina Cifuentes Almanza, Maria Dolores Gregori, and Maya Ballen.
And stay tuned, very soon we will announce the exciting fall program of our 15th season that will open in September, with two solos exhibitions, a choreography, a chef in residence. a book launch, concerts of music and much more.
And the song keeps going:
Voila l'été Here's summer
Enfin l'été Finally summer
Toujours l'été Always summer
Encore l'été. Again summer.
Sincerely yours
Lucien Zayan

Andrea Sham, Pastry Artist In Residency
Until June 28, 2023
la Salle A Manger (SAM)
Self-taught pastry artist, Andrea Sham approaches culinary creation like an artist composing her canvas: first comes inspiration and imagination, then comes ornamented shapes and soft, sour colors. recognizable at first glance, andrea sham’s ultra-aesthetic cakes are like poetic gourmet compositions. Deeply inspired by the beauty and potential of nature, Sham’s creations are as good as they are beautiful.
Originally from Venezuela, with a Chinese father and a Portuguese mother, she arrived in France at the age of 12. After a long search for her path in different fields such as anthropology, naturopathy, cinema, or millinery, it is thanks to a happy accident during a professional experience in a juice bar that Andrea Sham launched into pastry making. The owner, dissatisfied with the cakes from another supplier, suggested she sells her own creations. The success is immediate.

New York Waterfront Diary
Sophie Fenwick and Pauline Vermare
More than a mere documentation of an essential part of the life of the city, New York Waterfront Diary is a meditation on time and distance. Echoing the richly observed details in the stories of the New Yorker writer and waterfront wanderer Joseph Mitchell, and the grittily poetic settings of Elia Kazan’s 1954 film On the Waterfront, Fenwick’s project summons both memory and imagination.
A longtime New Yorker, Fenwick was born in Manhattan, spent part of her childhood in France, and moved back to New York at the age of nine. After she began living in Brooklyn when she was in her early twenties, and while she was working at Magnum Photos, Fenwick was inspired to begin documenting the waterfront, often capturing scenes of abandonment and decay.
New York Waterfront Diary includes images taken in all five boroughs of New York City as well as the Port of New York and New Jersey.
