On July 11, 2024, the North Carolina Republican Party hosted a press call featuring NC-06 Republican Congressional nominee Addison McDowell and Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page to highlight the failures of Vice President Kamala Harris as the Biden Administration's so-called "Border Czar" and why neither she or Joe Biden are fit to be President in 2024.

Said McDowell:

"The idea that North Carolina is going to vote for Laughin’ Kamala Harris is a bigger joke than Joe Biden saying he is a six handicap golfer or listening to Democrats respond in riddles when asked if they still support Joe Biden after the debate."

"But to me, the most important reason why Laughin’ Kamala Harris must be fired is no joke. In 2016, I lost my little brother Luke to fentanyl poisoning. One pill, manufactured in China and smuggled through our open border, cost him his life & put a permanent hole in our family. I still feel today like I’ve lost my arm — a piece of me will be missing forever."

"The crisis at our border touched my family while Joe Biden was Vice President. President Trump did a phenomenal job undoing years of terrible policy, we were headed in the right direction. However, when Biden and Kamala Harris took office, their policies created an unmitigated disaster and drove me off the sidelines and into a run for office."

"Joe Biden’s open border - and his Border Czar Kamala Harris - could stop this border crisis today if they wanted to. But they won’t. They opened the border on Day One and they’ve endangered every family in North Carolina."

"Our country is being invaded, drugs are flowing across our border, and my wife and daughter are in danger because Kamala Harris and Joe Biden are incapable of admitting they created a disaster and they refuse to fix it. It’s very clear that Kamala Harris is unfit to be President or Vice President. And North Carolinians know it."

Said Page:

"As the Sheriff of Rockingham County I took my own initiative in 2010 to do something even President Obama wouldn't do: I paid my own way and I flew to the border to meet with the sheriffs down there to see exactly what was going on. I have had the opportunity to make several trips back and forth to the border area to better understand and work toward legislation and work on our Congress to try to better secure our borders."

"Unfortunately, under this administration, when President Trump went out Joe Biden and VP Harris began removing the policies that actually were helping to protect America and the American people."

"You don't hear a lot in this administration about the fentanyl deaths in America. Over a hundred thousand people died last year due to fentanyl deaths and opioid deaths in this country. We take it back to North Carolina, we lose about 11 people a day. We'll lose 4,000 North Carolinians this coming year due to fentanyl deaths."

"The sad thing is she's never been to the border. She never engaged with the Border Patrol agents. She never talked to them to find out what was actually going on, to see what she could do to help our country and protect our communities."

"If we fail to secure our borders, every sheriff in America will become a border sheriff, or already is a border sheriff. This administration, our President, and Vice President Harris, have not done their part to protect America and stand up for the American people."
