Dia de los Niños

Join us on April 29th for a celebration of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

The schedule of events for Día de los Niños is as follows:

Lotería 1:00 to 2:30 PM.
Performance by Cascada de Flores 3:00 to 4:00 PM.
Free churros from Churros Mexicanos 4:00 to 5:00 PM.
This free program is made possible through sponsorship from First 5 of Alameda County and the generosity of the Friends of the Alameda Free Library. Seating is first come, first served, and a full room is expected.

Make It: Calling all knitters, crochetiers, embroidery enthusiasts, and fiber ateliers! Please join us for a fiber arts craft circle. Bring your own project, materials, and expertise. Limited instruction available! Tuesday, April 4th and 18th, 4:30 PM. Main Library, Family Study Room. 

Starting Seeds Indoors: Learn how to start seeds indoors using seeds from the seed lending library at the Alameda Free Library. Saturday, April 8th, 2:00 PM, Main Library, Stafford Room.

Alameda Library Writers Group: Open to all adult writers looking for an opportunity to connect and share with other writers. Whatever your genre, you are welcome to join the group! Saturday, April 8th, 12:30 PM. Main Library, Family Study Room. 

Cloud Computing: This class will cover different websites that help keep your documents together so that you can access them wherever there is an Internet connection. Tuesday, April 11th, 6:00 PM, Main Library, Computer Lab. 

April Movie Night - The Girls in the BandIn honor of Jazz Appreciation Month, join us for a screening of this award-winning documentary. The Girls in the Band highlights the untold groundbreaking stories of female jazz and big band instrumentalists. Wednesday, April 26th, 6:00 PM. Main Library, Stafford Room.

TAB: Teen Advisory Board: Plan community events, get experience, and earn volunteer hours! Ages 13-18 only. Tuesday, April 4th, 4:30 PM. Main Library, Stafford Room. 

Teen Book ClubTeen book club members choose what we read each month. Ages 13-18 years old.  Free copies on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register to join. April Title: A Magic Steeped in Poison by Judy I. Lin. Wednesday, April 5th, 4:00 PM. Main Library | Stafford Room. 

Girls Who Code: Girls Who Code Clubs are meant for girls (grades 6-8) to join our sisterhood of supportive peers and role models, and use Computer Science to change the world. Thursday, April 6th, 20th, and 27th, 3:30 PM. Main Library | Computer Lab. 

Peeps Diorama ContestThe Alameda Free Library is giving Peep-le of all ages an excuse to play with their food! Design and construct a diorama featuring Peeps marshmallows as the characters. Tuesday, April 6th to Sunday, April 16th. Main Library | Reference Desk.

Dungeons & Dragons: Looking to get into Dungeons & Dragons? No experience needed. Character sheets, dice, and rules explanations provided. Teens only! Monday, April 10th, 6:00 PM. Main Library | Stafford Room.

Game Break: Don't forget to take a break...A GAME BREAK! Try out our new games and/or watch others play! Teens only! Wednesday, April 12th, 3:30 PM. Main Library | Stafford Room.

Teen Poetry Workshop: The Library is thrilled to host Alameda's Poet Laureate: Kimi Sugioka for a teen poetry workshop. Kimi will discuss her experience as a poet and lead a workshop on creative writing. The theme of the workshop is who I am vs. who you think I am. Wednesday, April 19th, 4 PM. Teen Homework Center.

- Family Movie Matinee - Soul: Join us for a sensory-friendly, family focused movie matinee in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month. Soul explores the question “What is it that makes you...YOU?” Saturday, April 22, 2:00 PM, Main Library, Stafford Room.  

- Día de los Niños: A celebration emphasizing the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. A day full of fun for the whole family, join us for Lotería at 1:00 PM; a Performance by Cascada de Flores 3:00  PM, and free churros from Churros Mexicanos at 4:00 PM. Saturday, April 29th, 1:00 PM, Main Library, Stafford Room.
