Stay Safe & Healthy
Throughout the Holiday Season!

James, the holiday season is meant for celebration and togetherness - not trips to the ER.

But every year, thousands of people experience preventable accidents during the rush of decorating, preparing festive meals and hosting gatherings. So the American Red Cross is sharing some key tips to help you and your loved ones to celebrate the upcoming holidays safely:

- Ensure ladders are stable and secured when putting up decorations - and never stand on the top step.
- On icy days, salt driveways and walkways help prevent slips and falls.
- If burned or cut while cooking, clean and treat the wound right away to lower the risk of infection.
- Follow food safety guidelines to prevent the risk of food poisoning for family and friends around the table.
- Be mindful when lifting heavy items and use good lifting techniques to avoid back injuries and sprains.
- The holidays carry the highest risk for heart attacks and cardiac arrest. Stay vigilant and be ready to seek immediate medical help if needed.

Preparedness can make the difference between a minor holiday mishap and a major hospital visit - as the holiday season approaches, visit the Red Cross website for more tips and resources to stay safe in the weeks and months ahead.
