HURRICANE HELENE UPDATE

Late last week, Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida's Big Bend region as a Category 4 storm, the largest to ever hit the region. As the storm moved north, it proceeded to devastate communities across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee, leaving 15 million people without power, destroying up to 10,000 homes and damaging nearly 400 roads and highways. This storm's wrath has been catastrophic.

The American Red Cross and local responders are focused on providing lifesaving food, water and shelter over the next several days, as a long and arduous recovery effort is only beginning. The widespread destruction of homes and communities will take months or even years to remedy, leaving tens of thousands of families' lives drastically altered for an indefinite period of time.

The Red Cross is committed to being on the ground, from immediate necessities to longer-term support but that's only possible with your help.

James, in recent days, more than 18,000 overnight stays have been provided in more than 200 shelters. There, individuals and families have found strength and comfort in receiving warm meals, clean water, a safe place to sleep and kind compassion.
