ARIZONA – Last week, Republicans in the legislature moved forward multiple bills that attack Arizonans’ rights to free, safe, and organized elections. Arizona Democratic Party Chairman Robert Branscomb and ADLCC Board Co-Chair Senator Priya Sundareshan released the following statements:
“Voting is a fundamental right, and Republicans in the legislature are stripping away at our power to vote them out of office,” said Chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party, Robert Branscomb. “This comes down to character; as Democrats in the legislature do real work to fund free school lunches, protect our water, and make housing more affordable, Republicans are taking away every Arizonan’s voice. Our last line of defense in protecting our Democracy is our incumbent statewide Democrats who tirelessly advocate for our rights.”
“Arizona’s Republican-controlled legislature is relentlessly coming after our voting rights,” said ADLCC Co-Chair Senator Priya Sundareshan. “Arizonans deserve leadership that will fight to protect our water, lower the cost of groceries, and fund our public schools, not a legislature that is working to strip away their voting rights. The contrast is clear, while Democrats work for Arizonans, Republicans work for themselves and their billionaire donors.”
Arizona Republicans are stripping away our voting rights:
HB2440 prohibits the Attorney General from prosecuting or initiating civil actions against the county board of supervisors or other county officers concerning their official duties related to election certification.
HB2651 which requires that voting equipment be manufactured in the U.S.
SB1152 decreases the number of days Arizonans have to vote early.
HB2703 would cut the ballot drop-off deadline to the Friday before Election Day.
Arizonans can contact their state legislators about protecting our voting rights here.
The Arizona Democratic Party is focused on protecting incumbent Democrats and electing more Democrats up and down the ballot this next election cycle. Voters can visit azdem.org to make a donation or learn more about key priorities within the Party.
