Arts Connect News - August 17, 2023

It's been a week of big changes - and it's difficult to believe that it's already Thursday, but there's a ton of great things to do from now through the end of the weekend - check out the events below. Remember that we are always adding more events to the calendar on our website or on the ArtsConnect Facebook page, so check us out whenever you're looking for something new and different!

As you may know, ArtsConnect is at the beginning stages of a project with an accomplished artist named vanessa german. As the artist has described, it's a project that will "contend with the complexities, traumas and triumphs of Brown through communal conversation, co-creation workshops, and inspired generative responses to a series of artfully structured prompts, thought experiments and communal object offerings." This weekend, vanessa german is one of six artists revealing new installations on the National Mall - her sculpture, entitled "Of Thee I Sing," is a tribute to opera singer Marian Anderson and her powerful 1939 Lincoln Memorial concert in segregated Washington, D.C., held up by a sea of hands. This project is a good way to learn more about her as an artist - and we are very excited to bring her to Topeka over the coming months.
