Artspace Announces Executive Director Resignation

Artspace New Haven, a leader in presenting contemporary art in Connecticut, is announcing the resignation of Lisa Dent as Executive Director.  "I'm leaving Artspace in the capable hands of our incredible staff,” Dent said.  “I look forward to continuing to visit Artspace and see some of the best curatorial work in the region. Artists will continue to be supported through a number of programs and initiatives currently being devised for 2023.” The board intends to conduct a search for a new Executive Director in the coming months.

Kara Straun, Artspace’s board president states, “Artspace’s Board of Directors is deeply appreciative of Lisa and all that she has contributed to Artspace as an organization and the arts community at-large during her time here in New Haven.  Through her directorial vision, Lisa sparked inspiration and achieved a great deal in making community connections that had not previously existed.  Truly valuing her accomplishments, the board intends to continue championing this vision of creating a more equitable arts community that is accessible and welcoming to all.  We warmly thank Lisa and wish her the best in all her future endeavors.”     

Artspace will resume its programming on February 11 with [Voicings], an exhibition about the conditions, capacities, and powers of voices to utter sounds, words, and signs. Inspired by the numerous asides, coughs, stutters, glitched signs, and breaths from on-screen voicings and calling devices over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic—at a time when embodied voicings seemed rare if not impossible—this group exhibition with works by artists Christine Sun Kim, Mira Dayal, JJJJJerome Ellis, Nikita Gale, Dominique Duroseau, Matt Keegan, Amiko Li, Gordon Hall, Joseph Keckler, and Sahra Motalebi meditates on the pluralities and slippages of voices. The opening reception will be at Artspace on February 11, 6 - 8 pm.
