Athens-Clarke County Unified Government - COVID-19 Update : October, 2022

Government and Politics

From: Athens-Clarke County Unified Government

October 7, 2022

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the Public Information Office has published 176 COVID-19 email newsletters. Due to the recent expiration of the local emergency declaration in place since that time, ACCGov will provide future newsletter updates only if CDC community levels move to “High,” if a new COVID-19 local emergency declaration is enacted, or if there are other significant ACCGov-related COVID-19 updates.

Residents are still urged to take precautions and to get vaccinated and boosted as per state and federal health officials' recommendations.

Thank you for your interest in these daily/weekly/regular updates over the last 2 1/2 years.

Local Declaration of Emergency Expires

The local declaration of emergency, originally approved by the Mayor & Commission in March 2020, was not extended on October 4, 2022. As a result, the local declaration has expired as of October 6, 2022.

The declaration included a mask requirement for public spaces and private businesses when the CDC COVID-19 Community Level was High for Athens-Clarke County.

Internal ACCGov policies still remain in place for ACCGov buildings and include mask requirements when the CDC designation is High.
