"Awash In Contradiction": Tri-City Herald Slams Dave Reichert for Extreme Record

The newspaper endorsed Bob Ferguson for governor, stating he has “leadership experience, ties to work for all.”

Seattle, WA — Over the weekend, the Tri-City Herald slammed corporate lobbyist Dave Reichert, stating his “campaign is awash in contradiction” as he “[attempts] to pitch himself as a moderate” but can’t help but show his far-right agenda. “It’s enough to make one’s head spin,” the editorial board concludes.

According to the board, Reichert’s anti-abortion record, votes to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and “poor” record on LGBTQIA+ rights make him too extreme for Washington. The board also notes that Reichert wants to “cut taxes but also increase spending” while being “unable to identify cuts sufficient to make the numbers work.”

In stark contrast, Democratic candidate for governor, Attorney General Bob Ferguson, “has the experience to lead the state and an agenda that matches what a majority of Washingtonians want,” like when he “targeted bad corporate actors as attorney general” and “won $1.2 billion from pharmaceutical companies to fund treatment for substance use disorders and first responders.”

“The choice is clear: A vote for Bob Ferguson is a vote to protect our fundamental rights and freedoms and stand up to big corporations and corrupt interests,” said Shasti Conrad, chair of the WA State Democrats. “Dave Reichert, on the other hand, won’t do what’s right to stand up for working families, women’s rights, or LGBTQIA+ Washingtonians. Reichert is too extreme for Washington.”
