Turn Again to the Earth

This fall, we embarked on Turn Again to the Earth, an ambitious initiative centered on the environment that will encourage conversation and action around climate change and the role of the museum. Throughout 2025, we'll dive deeper into this work, examining the relationship between art and the environment as we celebrate our 110th anniversary and consider our future through the lens of this critical subject.

Black Earth Rising
May 18—September 21, 2025

Presented as part of Turn Again to the Earth, this ticketed exhibition brings together works by contemporary African diasporic, Latin American, and Native American artists to change the way we think about environmentalism. Curated by renowned writer and curator Ekow Eshun, Black Earth Rising centers the voices of people of color to remind us of our joyful connection to nature and how exploring this connection can be a form of resistance against historical oppression. The exhibition includes works by artists such as Firelei Báez, Wangechi Mutu, and Jaune Quick-to-See Smith.

Tickets go on sale Earth Day, April 22.

Become a BMA Member for free admission and to attend to the Black Earth Rising Member Breakfast on Sunday, May 18.
