From: Beaches Museum and History ParkThe Beaches Museum recently completed long-awaited improvements and upgrades by partnering with local vendors.
With funding made possible through the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville’s Capital Grant program, along with private donations, the Beaches Museum recently completed functional and aesthetic improvements. The project included a new roof, a full repainting of the building, and updated sustainable landscaping.
“As the Beaches Museum building nears 20 years of age, we are so glad to have amazing partners, willing funders, and the board leadership who could help us take care of the building for the NEXT 20,” said Executive Director Chris Hoffman.
The Museum’s prominent and iconic building that houses the permanent history exhibit, a rotating fine art and history exhibit space, gathering space for special events, and the archives and collections, now shines a little brighter with a fresh coat of paint.
The distinctive yellow paint used on the exterior of the building is an original Flagler-era color. Known as Flager Yellow, Henry Flagler first used this shade of yellow at the Ponce de Leon Hotel (now Flagler College), Alcazar Hotel (now the Lightner Museum), the Casa Monica Hotel (now the Casa Monica Resort & Spa), and his railway cars for Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railway. In another nod to historical customs, the front porch ceiling of the Beaches Museum was painted haint blue to match the sky in honor of Gullah tradition.
This project builds off the very visible improvements that have been made in the past few years including the Cultural Council-funded projects of the new roof for the Chapel and the new sign along Beach Boulevard.
“These improvements provide functional improvements to the Museum as well as aesthetic improvements that instill pride in the community,” said Hoffman.
Community partners that participated in the project included Romano Brothers Roofing Services, McIntyre Stucco & Painting, and Rockaway Sustainable Landscaping.
