From: Burnham LibraryBridgewater, CT - Burnham Library presents “Florabugs,” an enchanting art exhibition by local artist Betsy Duckworth.
The inspiration for Florabugs © began when Betsy’s son, Dash, was about three years old. While playing together in their garden, Betsy found herself slowing her pace to match her son's, allowing her to notice the smallest wonders of the natural world. This mindful connection sparked her journey into creating “Florabugs.”
Through her art, Betsy weaves a narrative of nature’s resilience, beauty, decay, and rebirth. Each insect sculpture she creates is unique, combining antique textiles, found objects, natural materials, and clay to form intricate and imaginative pieces. Her work inspires viewers to develop a deeper appreciation for the environment and the extraordinary artistry inherent in the natural world.
Betsy Duckworth is an artist, craftsperson, and writer based in Sherman, CT. Her body of work includes sculptures, paintings, large hanging pieces, environmentally sourced crowns, and her signature “Florabugs.” She is drawn to imperfect and vintage objects, each with its own story, which she repurposes to highlight their longevity and character. Her creations are textural and layered, transforming materials into pieces rich with form and complexity.
