Friends, this is a newsletter you’ll want to read through until the end.
We’ve got some great summer classes planned, a new ride coming up you won’t want to miss, and an urgent call to action to support the plans to make life-saving improvements to a fatal roadway in Greenpoint.
A well-connected local business interest has gotten City Hall's attention with a last-ditch campaign to stop the project. We need to make our voices heard now!
Discover Hudson Valley Ride Recap
Our 2023 Discover Hudson Valley ride has received rave reviews! Participants said the organizers and volunteers ran a fantastic event. The views were unbeatable, and the pie was extraordinary; the course was challenging and fun, the beer garden a welcome end-of-course treat, and our riders can't wait until next year!
Two highlights of a fantastic event were 40 local children getting their start on a bicycle during our DHV Learn to Ride Classes, and our NYCHA Youth Ambassadors testing their new skills on the 15-mile course.
Many riders told us they can't wait until next year's DHV to challenge themselves with a longer distance. Great news, you don't have to wait until next year! You can join us for our Twin Lights Ride on Sunday, October 1st, named after the iconic Navesink Twin Lights up the hill from Huddy Park in Highlands, New Jersey.
We offer five routes ranging from 15 to 100 miles that take you along the beautiful Jersey shore, over undulating hills, and past quaint farms to our finish festival, where local restaurants come out to serve their best to hungry riders!

Bicycles for Asylum Seekers
On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, Bike New York, the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA), and the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) began distributing the first 100 out of 200 bicycles donated by New Yorkers as part of the Bicycles for Asylum Seekers Program, a pilot initiative designed to provide free bicycles to asylum seekers and other immigrants recently arriving in New York City. Bike New York is proud to lead this program.
All recipients of these bikes will receive free bike repairs at Recycle-A-Bicycle until they secure jobs and are back on their feet. Additionally, Bike New York will provide Learn to Ride instruction in their native languages for those who do not know how to ride.
We are grateful to our partners who make this work possible:
The Mayor's Officer of Immigrant Affairs
The New York Department of Transportation
Generous New Yorkers who donated bikes
The Bike Mechanic Team at Recycle-A Bicycle who refurbished the bikes and Unlimited Biking, Trek Bicycles, and NYC DCAS, who provided drop-off locations across the city.
Amazon stepped up to ensure the program could continue and offered generous financial support.
The Bicycles for Asylum Seekers Program is an excellent example of New Yorkers coming together to assist their neighbors! To make a gift to the program, GIVE TODAY!
