From: Branigan Cultural Center

Branigan Cultural Center is accepting proposals for exhibits with themes of cultural and historical significance relating to the Borderlands and the U.S. Southwest to be presented in 2024. We are particularly interested in submissions that consider the 175th anniversary of the settling of Mesilla and Las Cruces, New Mexico. Submission topics can be wide-ranging and address historic or contemporary issues. We invite submissions from formal and informal scholars, cultural heritage organizations, and artists (solo or group).

Proposals must be submitted via SurveyMonkey. Starting April 1st, a link to the SurveyMonkey form can be found at the Las Cruces Museums website: https://www.las-cruces.org/Museums. Applications must include a brief narrative of the exhibit theme; a statement by the scholar, artist, or group; 5-10 jpg or png images of proposed objects or artwork that will be displayed; and linear and/or square footage needs. Exhibitions typically run for an 8–12-week period. Incomplete or late proposals will not be accepted.

Previous exhibitions have included topical exhibits such as historical postcards of Las Cruces, the music of New Mexico, and a multi-media examination of the impact of water on the Borderlands. Artistic exhibitions have included black and white photographs of White Sands National Monument, art quilts that interpret life along the Rio Grande, and Día de los Muertos.

Deadline for submissions is Friday, May 20, 2023, at 5pm. For more information, visit lascruces.gov/museums or call 575.541.2154.

The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 N. Main St. and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and Saturday 9am to 4:30pm. There is no admission charge.
