Brevard County, FL - Brevard County Fire Rescue will host a Recognition Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, to honor Brevard County Fire Rescue personnel for their life saving actions which resulted in a favorable patient outcome.

On Thursday, April 27, Lt. Christopher Simmons, fire medic Jay Ibanez, fire medic Robert Griffith, firefighter/EMT George Ricks and firefighter/EMT David Rieth responded to a medical emergency in reference to a choking victim at Outback Steakhouse on Merritt Island. Dispatchers relayed that the victim’s airway was blocked and the victim’s condition was rapidly deteriorating. Brevard County Fire Rescue personnel knew they needed to act fast.  Upon making contact with the victim and immediately assessing the airway, the BCFR medic was able to visualize and remove the obstruction.  Manual ventilations were initiated and the patient was rapidly transported to the nearest hospital where they were able to make a full recovery.

The ceremony will take place at Brevard County Fire Rescue Station 43, located at 902 Airport Road, Merritt Island, FL 32952.
