Bryan Steil Won’t Stand Up For Women and Oppose a National Abortion Ban

Government and Politics

MADISON, Wis. — This weekend, Bryan Steil again refused to commit to rejecting a nationwide abortion ban in Congress.  When asked this weekend whether he would vote for a national abortion ban should it come to the House floor, Steil evaded the question and refused to commit to voting against an abortion ban in Congress.

Bryan Steil continues to campaign alongside Donald Trump and his extreme anti-abortion agenda, while still failing time and again to provide women and families in the 1st Congressional District with a straightforward answer whether he would do what’s right and reject attacks on their reproductive freedom.

Here are some of the ways Bryan Steil has refused to stand up for women’s reproductive freedoms:

  • When pressed on whether he would support a nationwide abortion ban, Bryan Steil provided a non-answer and said that abortion has “primarily returned to the states.

  • Bryan Steil evades questions on national abortion bans moving through the House, but refuses to provide a clear answer on how he would vote if this Project 2025 promise came before him as a bill.

  • Bryan Steil called the overturn of Roe v. Wade a “a great victory for life,” while knowing that women in Wisconsin would be forced to live under an abortion ban with no exceptions.

“Answering whether you will vote to ban abortion nationwide is the easiest yes or no question to answer, but apparently even that is too difficult for Bryan Steil,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Deputy Communications Director Haley McCoy. “Bryan Steil can pretend all he likes and try his best to evade easy questions on freedom, but his record is clear. Bryan Steil celebrates abortion bans, votes against bills that would secure access to care and IVF, and buddies up with anti-abortion extremists like JD Vance and Donald Trump. Voters in the 1st Congressional District are tired of watching Bryan Steil run from straightforward questions about whether he will protect their reproductive freedoms, and are ready to elect Peter Barca who is unwavering in his commitment to stand up and fight for choice.”
