Wednesday, February 8, 2023
6:30pm: Opening Preview Reception and Film: Fire of Love - CCA

7:30pm: Screening of Fire of Love

Kick off the festival with a glass of wine from Hearst Ranch Winery and delicious appetizers from Cambria Cafe. Meet fellow film lovers and chat about expectations. Get a preview of programming from the Festival directors about this year’s films. Pick up your printed program and map out your plans.

Then join us in either the Cambria Center for the Arts Theatre or our cabaret-style Gallery Theatre for a special screening of Fire of Love. Ever since its debut at Sundance early in 2022, this documentary has been wowing film festival audiences. Intrepid scientists and lovers Katia and Maurice Krafft died in a volcanic explosion doing the very thing that brought them together: unraveling the mysteries of volcanos by capturing the most explosive imagery ever recorded. Director: Sara Dosa

Fire of Love
Katia and Maurice Krafft loved two things - each other and volcanoes. For two decades, the daring French volcanologist couple roamed the planet, chasing eruptions and documenting their discoveries. Ultimately, they lost their lives in a 1991 volcanic explosion, leaving a legacy that forever enriched our knowledge of the natural world. Director Sara Dosa and the filmmaking team fashion a lyrical celebration of the intrepid scientists’ spirit of adventure, drawing from the Kraffts’ spectacular archive. FIRE OF LOVE tells a story of primordial creation and destruction, following two bold explorers as they venture into the unknown, all for the sake of love.
