Chairman Carnahan Statement On 2024 Election

Government and Politics

November 8, 2024

“The next administration will inherit the best American economy in recent history, with historically high employment and inflation falling. The massive investments in infrastructure projects made by the Biden Harris Administration will only continue to yield the dividends promised. Our job now is to hold this administration and the Republican Party accountable to continuing this growth and expanding these investments in the American people,” said Missouri Democratic Party Chairman Russ Carnahan.

“While the results of this election were not what we had hoped for, there are plenty of things for Missouri Democrats to be proud of, including protecting the initiative petition process, enshrining reproductive rights into Missouri’s constitution, increasing the minimum wage and allowing Missouri workers to earn sick leave. Despite Democratic losses across the country, we held our numbers in the state legislature, a testament to the excellence of our candidates and their hard work. We must continue the fight and Missouri Democrats will be taking a hard look at the data, listening to our voters, and learning from these outcomes to build a strong coalition that champions progressive values for Missouri families.”

Wall Street Journal: The Next President Inherits a Remarkable Economy

“Whoever wins the White House next week will take office with no shortage of challenges, but at least one huge asset: an economy that is putting its peers to shame.

With another solid performance in the third quarter, the U.S. has grown 2.7% over the past year. It is outrunning every other major developed economy, not to mention its own historical growth rate.

More impressive than the rate of growth is its quality. This growth didn’t come solely from using up finite supplies of labor and other resources, which could fuel inflation. Instead, it came from making people and businesses more productive.”
