City Of American Canyon Manager's Update - December 30, 2022

Government and Politics

January 1, 2023

From: City Of American Canyon

As we turn the page on our 30th anniversary, American Canyon's future remains brighter than ever, and I feel a deep sense of gratitude. With widely-engaged community groups leading the way and the Watson Ranch/Town Center Project (finally) under construction, a new chapter—"Sense of Place"—is emerging.

While the City organization itself plays a central role, it is not the only source of hard work or good ideas. The Community—embodied through a broad network of groups and volunteers—is the more impactful construct. I am grateful for everyone's contributions and excited to see what the future holds.

A new year means more opportunities to engage as a community. Despite your prior interactions, you may never know what challenges others face. Now more than ever, community members need your tokens of grace and gestures of gratitude. As we begin a new year, please remember to build human capital by treating others as you would like to be treated.

Lastly, please celebrate responsibly this weekend and keep in mind that City offices will be closed on Monday, January 2, in observance of the New Year's Day holiday.

Thank you all for making American Canyon the best place to live, work, and play. Have a safe New Year's weekend, and cheers to 2023.

Jason B. Holley
City Manager

Stormy weather is on the horizon! A New Year’s Eve storm will deliver strong, gusty winds, moderate to heavy rain and a chance for isolated thunderstorms. Follow the tips above to be prepared and stay safe.

During heavy rain, localized flooding may occur along our natural creeks and drainage that traverse the area. We encourage our residents to proactively prepare for storms that can cause flooding and power outages. A self-serve sandbag station is located at City Hall (4381 Broadway, near the entrance by the tree & picnic table) and is available 24/7 during the winter season. Sand and sandbags are provided; users will need to bring their gloves and shovels.

PG&E is preparing for the storm and proactively working to reduce the risk of outages. Customers can view real-time outage information on its website outage center and also sign up for outage notifications.

Please remember to slow down, turn on your headlights, use your windshield wipers, and maintain a distance of several car lengths between your car and other vehicles.
If you see downed wires or a hazardous situation, call 911 immediately. All other problems, such as clogged storm drains and downed trees, may be reported by calling (707) 995-8674.

Based upon current trail conditions and projected rainfall totals, Newell Open Space will be closed Friday, December 30, 2022 through Sunday, January 1, 2023 with a projected open date of Monday, January 2, 2023.

The Philip West Aquatics Center will be closed through January 2, 2023. There will be no aquatic programs during this time. Parks and Recreation offices, including in-person services at City Hall, will also be closed through January 2, 2023 for the holidays. In the meantime, our virtual City Hall is available 24 hours, 7 days a week. We hope you enjoy this time to rest, recharge, and spend quality time with your family and friends!
