Chief's Message

As we approach the end of the first quarter of 2023, we have already accomplished so much, with more things to come.

As our team prepares our 2022 Annual Report, we have noticed a jump in calls for service. In the last 10 years we have seen a 40% rise in calls for service overall, and a 45% in calls for medical aid, yet there has only been a 9% growth in population. With this higher call volume we are actively recruiting for Firefighter/Paramedic’s at this time. This hiring will backfill some vacancies due to added positions, promotions and retirements. We are grateful to the Fire Board of Directors for their support.

Tuesday night at the Fire District Board meeting I had the privilege of promoting Firefighter/Paramedic Chad Pilkington to the rank of Captain. Captain Pilkington has served the community of American Canyon since November of 2013. Since that time he has assisted in building the Advanced Life Support (ALS) program, started our ‘Hand’s Only CPR’ program and continues to show leadership skills with his peers and the community. Congratulations!

We are also happy to announce that our four most recent hires have all passed their first module of testing. Firefighter skills are taught and built upon in layers, so each module helps build the foundation for the next. We are excited to watch them grow in their career and in the District.

I encourage you to read more about the upcoming ‘Women in Public Safety’ event listed below. We are thankful to Santa Rosa Fire and Police Departments for allowing us to participate. If you know any women who are interested in Public Safety, this would be a great event to learn more.

CPR Training

Promotion, Captain Chad Pilkington

Tuesday February 28th, at the Fire District Board Meeting, Firefighter/Paramedic Chad PIlkington was promoted to the rank of Captain.

Captain Pilkington was 'pinned; by his wife Kori and joined by his daughter Karli and his extended family.

Upcoming Women In Public Safety Event

On Saturday, March 18th, American Canyon Fire Protection District will join 22 other Public Safety agencies for demonstrations at the 'Women In Public Safety Day' event hosted by Santa Rosa Police and Fire. 

Probationary Firefighter Sarah Bayersdorfer and Firefighter EJ Abalos will be attending to recruit the finest, and invite them to apply to AmCan Fire.

Fire Explorer Program

February saw our first full month of Explorer drills. The AmCan Explorer team were issued 'Class B' uniforms and PT gear. 

They also started to learn the value of physical fitness, ropes and knots, personal protective equipment donning, Engine/Truck familiarization, Fire District history and the high standard the has been set within the District for Mission, Vision and Values.

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis. However, new explorers will be introduced every six months until the maximum amount of 12 explorers is reached. After submission of an application, explorer candidates will be notified for an oral interview before being accepted into the program.

What is CERT?

Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) is a nationally recognized emergency training course that teaches essential emergency response skills. By taking and completing the CERT course you will gain the skills and confidence necessary to help yourself, your family, and your community during a disaster.

Recent ACCERT Highlights

-February 4th - ACCERT joined forced with Napa County CERT to conduct a joint training for Traffic Control and POD refresher training. 

-February 25h - ACCERT participated in the Napa County Skills Update. This valuable training consisted of Bus Evacuations, Access and Functional Needs and Companion Animal Evacuations.
