Kathy Kleinbaum brings municipal management acumen to thriving Peninsula city

Today, Belmont City Manager Afshin Oskoui announced the appointment of Kathy Kleinbaum as the City’s new Assistant City Manager and is pleased to welcome its newest addition to the city's management team after a nationwide search. Kathy will join the City in August.
A long-standing public-sector leader with over 23 years of experience in the San Francisco Bay Area, Kathy brings her expertise in municipal management, and broad range of skills to the City of Belmont. She has previously served as a Senior Project Manager with the City of Oakland Redevelopment Agency, as the Economic Development Manager of the City of Los Altos, and most recently as the Assistant City Manager for the City of San Mateo.
"We're very pleased to add another exceptionally skilled professional to our management team," said City Manager Afshin Oskoui. "Kathy's refreshing ideas and new perspective combined with proven management skills will elevate our work in the community."
Kathy's areas of specialty include public policy analysis and implementation, public private partnership negotiations, economic development, and sustainability. In the City of San Mateo, she helped lead many initiatives including the adoption of a local minimum wage, drafting San Mateo’s first Climate Action Plan, the implementation of the Kiku Crossing affordable housing development and downtown garage project, and the adoption of San Mateo’s DEI Strategic Plan.

"I'm looking forward to the potential of Belmont and joining such a dedicated and innovative professional team."
Kathy holds a Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning from U.C. Berkeley and a Bachelor of Science in Earth Systems from Stanford University.
