From: City Of EasthamptonEASTHAMPTON - The Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) certified Easthampton’s property values and tax rate for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. At December 7, 2022, City Council Tax Classification Hearing, the Council took the Board of Assessors’ recommendation to adopt a single tax rate applying to all classes of property for FY 2023. Easthampton is a quarterly tax billing community, but tax bills go out twice a year to save money.
The total value of Easthampton property is $2,116,262,556.00. The distribution of property by tax classifications is: residential 87.8455%, commercial 5.8%, industrial 2.64%, and personal 3.7%. The FY 2023 tax rate is $14.65 per $1,000 of assessment. Overall growth is 14.7% across all taxable property categories.
All Massachusetts cities and towns set the current fiscal year property tax rates on previous years’ property values. The MA Department of Revenue certifies the new tax rate each fall. In July, the preliminary FY 2023 tax bill payment stubs for August 1, 2022, and November 1, 2022, are mailed using the FY2022 tax rate. In January, the Actual FY 2023 tax bills are mailed with due dates of February 1, 2023, and May 1, 2023, using the new FY 2023 tax rate. The February and May tax payments are adjusted using the new tax rate and property values, going back to July 1, 2022.
New property owners or those with new mailing addresses should make changes with the Assessor's Office to avoid any problems of not receiving bills promptly at 413-529-1401 or [email protected]. Applications for tax abatements are available in City Hall, online, or you can call the office to have one mailed to you. All abatement applications are due by February 1, 2023.
