Become part of the solution to ocean pollution on Coastal Cleanup Day! Hosted by Explore Ecology, join fellow ocean lovers next Saturday, September 23 from 9:00 a.m. to noon to make Santa Barbara County’s coastline, parks and creeks even more beautiful. Gloves, bags, and all the necessary cleanup gear are provided. You can also bring your own items.

Ellwood Bluffs and Beach
Meet at the top of Ellwood Mesa Bluffs at the chimney by the beach access (straight out from Ellwood Beach Drive). Goleta resident Al Souma is returning as site captain. Al feels it is important for community members to help navigate towards the environment we all desire. His favorite part of being Captain is observing how many parents bring their children along to create a teachable moment for the next generation. A co-captain for this site is still needed! Haskell’s Beach
Meet at the beach entrance near the snack bar. Lyn Moore and Eddie Oros of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, LLP are first-time captains for Coastal Cleanup Day. They are committed to being part of the solution to ocean pollution and to protecting the coast.

San Jose Creek
Meet at the Berkeley Footbridge at Merida Drive and Berkeley Road at San Jose Creek in Goleta. Brian Trautwein is a long-time site captain. Brian grew up in Goleta and attended local schools including UCSB. He founded the Santa Barbara Urban Creeks Council in 1987 and served as the group’s Executive Director until 1997. He is now with the Environmental Defense Center.

Let's come together as a community to give back to our beloved coast. Coastal Cleanup Day is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive impact on our environment while having a great time. It's also the kickoff to Creek Week, an annual celebration of our creeks, watersheds, and the ocean.
