Groundbreaking ceremonies for new city hall, library, and public safety facilities set for Feb. 2
The City of Midlothian will break ground on Thursday, February 2, for the construction of the new Public Library and City Hall building on North 8th Street and the new Public Safety building at North 8th Street and Highway 67. Ceremonies for the Public Safety facility will take place at 10 a.m. with Library/City Hall ceremonies following at 11 a.m.
Both projects were recommended by a Community Planning Group that began meeting in 2019. These projects are two of four approved by Midlothian voters in a bond election that was held in May 2021.
City Council entered into an agreement with Hoefer Welker for the architectural design of the facilities in September 2021. The design process involved input from the community. At a special called meeting on December 6, 2022, City Council approved contracts with Steele and Freeman for services related to the construction of the facilities. Construction is expected to take approximately 18 months.

Economic Development Invites Community to Info Session
The community is invited to learn about Midlothian Economic Development (MED) programs and how these efforts benefit citizens at an informational session set for Monday, January 23, at 6 p.m. at the MED offices, 310 N. 9th Street. Those attending the meeting will be introduced to the basics of local economic development, discuss how incentive agreements attract businesses.
The focus of MED is to promote existing business, enterprise expansion and retention, and attract new business development. As a Texas Type A corporation, MED is charged with the administration of sales tax to fund economic development projects. An appointed board directs and coordinates the broad-based expansion of the business and commercial tax base of the City of Midlothian, as well as promotes job growth and quality development in Midlothian.
