From: City of SaffordSummary: Lifeguards assist the Pool Manager and Assistant Pool Manager with the overall daily operation of the City swimming.
Distinguishing Characteristics: This is a singular tiered position that reports directly to the Pool Manager or Assistant Pool Manager.

-Supervising swimmers.
-Spotting hazards and preventing accidents.
-Providing advice on water safety.
-Providing water rescue.
-Providing first aid including CPR.
-Open and close the pool as directed by supervisor.
-Monitor pool related activities closely throughout shift and identify any safety issues.
-Direct swimmers out of pool in hazardous conditions.
-Organize and oversee pool parties.
-Maintain a clean environment in and around pool.
- Provide aid to patrons.
-Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledge & Skills:
-Knowledge of the operation of a swimming pool, including sanitation, maintenance, safety and public relations.
-Knowledge of principles, practices and application of lifesaving and first aid techniques.
-Knowledge of local emergency services available.
-Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to the pool use and enforcing them.
-Skill in interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
-Skill in following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
-Skill in acting quickly and calmly in emergencies.
Education, Experience, Certifications & Licenses:
-Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification with the American Red Cross.
-Must be 16 years of age or older
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
-Work is routinely performed in and around pool with exposure to inclement weather and varying temperatures.
-Subject to moderate noise levels, standing (sometimes for extended periods of time); walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing and occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
-Subject to lifting and/or moving victims, equipment and supplies weighing up to 150 pounds.
