Employee Spotlight: Rylan Davis, Aquatics Specialist

Q: What is your position and how long have you been with the City?

A: My current position with the City is the Aquatics Specialist. I have worked for the City for 10 years now. I started as a Lifeguard in the summer of 2013 and since then I have stuck with the City and worked my way up to where I am now as of September 2022.

Q: What are some of the main responsibilities of your job?

A: My main job responsibilities include the management of all aquatics facilities and programs within Shawnee. I supervise, hire and help train all aquatics staff.

Q: What do you love about your department?

A: The best part about the Aquatics department is by far the people. The pool staff is what makes work so fun every day and what keeps people coming back to Shawnee year after year. Also, who doesn't want a job that lets you hang out outside at a pool all day?

Q: Why should someone apply to work in aquatics this summer?

A: You should apply to work for Shawnee Aquatics this summer if you're looking for a fun summer job where you can make some money and some new friends at the same time!

In the News: Driver Operator Pinning Ceremony

The Shawnee Fire Department held its inaugural Driver Operator Pinning Ceremony in early January. Fifteen firefighters were promoted to the new position that is the first of its kind for the City of Shawnee. Staff worked hard to research and create this position that will provide new opportunities for growth within the Fire Department!

Firefighters had the chance to be pinned by family and loved ones. We want our employees' families to feel just as big a part of Team Shawnee as our employees do! It takes a village!
