JANUARY NATIONAL DAYS
January 3
National Fruitcake Toss Day -
Every year, a few hundred people gather in downtown Manitou Springs, Colorado, to hurl hundreds of fruitcakes into the air by hand, cannon, or slingshot. Fruitcakes last for ages, so don’t throw out that fruitcake we both know no one in your home will eat; throw it into the air!
National JRR Tolkien Day -
January 3 is “The Lord of the Rings” author’s birthday and you’re encouraged to toast him in celebration. You may remember from the story that Frodo toasts his
Uncle Bilbo on Bilbo’s birthday every year.
National Write to Congress Day -
A day for the citizens to exercise their democratic rights.
It is crucial to write to the State and Federal level representatives, relaying all concerns to them.
National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day
SUGAR CREEK RESIDENTS ARE AWESOME
In driving around Friday morning, looking at the trash set out
for Republic after two weeks, I have a few observations.
First, residents continue to follow the rule of placing the handle toward the house when they set their dumpcart out on the curb.
This assures that almost all of the trash will enter the trash truck. Thank you.
Second, about 10% of the residents were very good boys and girls as their dumpcarts were overflowing but everything was neatly arranged to help out the Republic driver. Thank you.
Third, a lot of trash was sacked up and sitting next to the dumpcart. Again, our residents were thinking about the driver and how much extra work he was going to have to do today. Thank you.
Fourth, over 50% of the dumpcarts held trash within the dumpcart. Thank you for conserving and recycling.
Fifth, a huge thank you goes out to City Administrator, Pat Casey, for staying on Republic and making sure they honor their part of the contract and a huge thank you to the Republic drivers who worked extra hard to complete Wednesday and Thursday routes so they could get to Sugar Creek on Friday.
Thank you.
Sixth, Republic drivers are out collecting trash as you read this email.
Seventh, Sugar Creek is a great place to live, work and play.
The residents are involved and concerned and they let you know about their concern, both positive and negative.
Your comments and concerns are greatly appreciated and encouraged. Thank you to all who called or emailed your concerns in 2022. As we move into 2023,
there will be challenges. Keep up the communication and let us know how we are doing. Thank you.
Have a safe and Happy New Year.
