MEET TIGHEE!
Tighee, pronounced "ty-gee," is the name of the first bison calf ever born at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Tighee is also the name of a Shoshone Chief and all funds generated by the bison naming opportunity go to the Eastern Shoshone Buffalo Program that helps conserve the remaining bison. The bison herd – including the one-month-old Tighee, can be visited daily in the Zoo’s Wilderness Trek!
THE FORECAST CALLS FOR NEWTS
Last week's rain brought out red efts eagerly seeking worms, crustaceans, and small insects to feed on. These brightly colored salamanders are the land-dwelling, juvenile stage of the eastern newt! Newts have a total life span of about 12 years, feeding exclusively on insects, worms, potato bugs and other small invertebrates. Look for them crawling along the forest floor after it rains, or under logs and leaf litter.
