How many birds can you see and hear on our sanctuaries?
The answer is: a lot!
We've counted 340 species.
That shows that the sanctuaries are great places for birds — and for people who love birds.
So to encourage you to visit our sanctuaries during our 125th anniversary year, we’ve come up with a fun activity:
The 125th Anniversary 125-Bird Challenge.
Learn more HERE.
And if you want to sign up (it's free), email us at [email protected].
This will be fun!
Homegrown Habitat
This month's featured native plant: ***** willow.
Their catkins (from the Dutch “kattekin” or kitten tail) are about to emerge.
Willows are considered keystone species because of their high value to wildlife. Click HERE to see what Sarah Middeleer has to say about them.
Looking to a future where all can share and experience the joys of nature
As you may know, some Audubon Societies across the country have recently decided to change their names because of the slave-owning legacy of John James Audubon. Those include Portland, Oregon, Chicago, and New York City.
The National Audubon Society announced recently that it would not change its name.
Our internal discussions about John James Audubon’s mixed legacy are ongoing. It is an issue we take seriously, and while we have no timetable for making a decision, we will continue to consult and deliberate.
We have more about this issue on our website. You can read about it HERE.
