Featured Poet: Jeronimo Speaks
Jeronimo Speaks was born and raised in the inner-city projects of Chicago. It was there that Jeronimo was introduced to freestyle and battle rapping. Since creating his first spoken word pieces in 2011, Jeronimo has released three Spoken Word EP’s. Jeronimo has earned prestigious awards from Spoken Word Magazine, P.O.E.T Organization, Midwest Urban Music Awards and Safe & Sound. He co-created Solace Souls Sundays Open Mic held at Quarry Event Space Center nominated for National Open Mic of the Year due to sold-out shows, free events and their work to feed and clothe the less fortunate. Still Shine is a group of like-minded, seasoned musicians blending acoustic roots and progressive bluegrass. Mixing acoustic guitar (Rob Bailey), upright bass (Dave Frye), harmonica (Andy Passie), banjo (Bruce Burton), mandolin/ tenor banjo/percussion (Wes Duffy), and tight vocal harmonies, they have quickly gained a following in the Midwest. They have shared the stage with artists such as Split Lip Rayfield, Chicago Farmer and The Way Down Wanderers just to name a few. Along with some well received original music, the band performs an upbeat, energetic show you won't want to miss! Visit www.stillshinegrass.com for music and video.

Constance Estep: This Beautiful Mess
August 30 - October 18, 2024 ~ Preston Jackson Gallery
Layering, collaging and obsessing over ideas and symbols fuels Constance Estep’s investigation into the secrets, irony and self-sabotage of interpersonal relationships. Combining found objects with house shaped boxes mirrors a beautiful restoration all can experience. An Associate Professor at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Estep teaches printmaking, drawing and painting.
August 30 - October 18, 2024 ~ Gallery 3R
Doilies were once passed on to daughters, cradled in a hope chest while awaiting fulfillment of love and prosperity within the confines of marriage. In this installation, Barbie Perry employs doilies as mandalas encouraging women to contemplate the dissonance of their hope and suppression throughout history and to celebrate the limitless potential of their spirits.
