The Dare County Library's three branches will be closed on Friday, December 23, through Tuesday, December 27, 2022 in observance of the Christmas Holiday.

Dare County Library to Host Three Holiday Events for all Local Families

Hatteras Library Family Christmas Event: "Christmas Joy" 

When: Saturday, December 3, 2022

Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Drop in anytime!) 

Where: Hatteras Library (indoors)

Join us for several fun family crafts, including terracotta pot ginger bread houses, cookie decorating, hot cocoa, a library "Elf on the Shelf" hunt, an ugly Christmas sweater contest (for adults and children) and a special guest from the North Pole!

Kill Devil Hills Library Event:

"Duck Santa" and "Sprinkles the Elf" Drive-Thru Event 

When: Monday, December 5, 2022

Time: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

Where: Kill Devil Hills Library parking lot 

Drop off a letter or wish list for Santa! Children will receive a take-home craft (while supplies last), and have the chance to talk and wave to Santa Claus! Children must remain in vehicles, and no walk-throughs will be permitted. Help us have a fun and safe drive-thru event for our community’s children.

Manteo Library Event: Drive-Thru Santa

When: Tuesday, December 6, 2022

Time: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Where: Manteo Library parking lot

Drop off a letter or wish list for Santa! Children will receive a bag of goodies (while supplies last) and have a chance to talk and wave to Santa Claus! Children must remain in vehicles, and no walk-throughs will be permitted. Children's Programs to take a Winter Break 

Donna Roark and Tammy Batschelet, our wonderfully busy and hardworking children's librarians, will be taking short breaks from their programs this December. 

Please note the following dates for Geocache, Storytimes, Hooked on Books, Reading to a Therapy Dog and Debate Club:

- Kill Devil Hills Geocache is on break until early 2023.
- Storytime, Hooked on Books and Reading to a Therapy Dog programs will be on break starting December 8, 2022 in Kill Devil Hills, December 14, 2022 in Manteo, and December 15, 2022 in Hatteras.
- Debate Club will take December off and resume in January 2023.

Raising Confident, Competent Children

Wednesday, December 7, 2022
6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
(Virtually via Zoom)

Children & Youth Partnership for Dare County is excited to partner with the Dare County Library to present a virtual seminar, Raising Confident, Competent Children, a Triple P (Positive Parenting Program)! 

This free 90-minute seminar is for parents/caregivers who want to encourage communication and social skills, self-esteem, problem-solving and independence in children from birth to 12 years old.
