Dave Reichert Voted Repeatedly to Repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare)

Seattle, WA -- During his long career in Congress, Dave Reichert was obsessed with taking away affordable health care from millions of families across the country, voting nearly 50 times to repeal, defund, or weaken the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare.

Despite Reichert’s hostility towards the ACA—specifically its benefits to seniors—the landmark legislation has expanded health insurance access, decreased prescription drug costs for seniors, and saved lives. Today, in Washington State, 808,000 residents rely on the ACA for Medicaid coverage, and 272,000 residents depend on its health insurance coverage through the marketplace.

Now, as he runs for governor, Reichert continues to attack efforts to make health care more affordable by supporting Initiative 2124, a deceptive ballot initiative funded by the Washington GOP’s California-based hedge fund bankroller, Brian Heywood. If passed this election, Initiative 2124 would have major implications for Washington families’ finances and access to health care by dismantling the state’s long-term care insurance program. Not only would this leave working Washingtonians to the whims of private insurance companies that can raise rates without warning and deny coverage to those with pre-existing conditions, but it would disproportionately hurt women, who are 73% more likely than men to permanently leave their jobs due to caregiving demands.
