DCWS Joins the DIA in a Concert Exploring Light and Darkness to Commemorate the April Solar Eclipse

Detroit, MI -- Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings joins the Detroit Institute of Arts to present a concert commemorating the April 8 solar eclipse. The concert takes place at 7 p.m. at the DIA (5200 Woodward Avenue).

The concert will include works exploring themes of light and darkness and their influence on creativity. Included in the concert are Bernard Rands’ Canti Dell’Eclisse, Claude Debussy’s Clair de Lune and Franz Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in B-flat, Op. 76, No. 4, “Sunrise.”

DCWS artistic director and conductor Timothy Weiss will lead the performance.

Musicians in the concert include pianist Zhihua Tang, violinist Hai Xin Wu, violinist Kimberly Kaloyanides Kennedy, violist Harper Randolph, cellist David LeDoux, flutist Caen Thomason-Redus, clarinetist Shannon Orme, trumpet player Derek Lockhart, percussionists Keith Claeys and James Ritchie, trombonist David Binder, baritone Rolfe Dauz and bassist Christopher Hamlin.

Opening the concert is a performance by a young artist, who will be selected at a later date. Their performance is sponsored by Myrna Hitchman

The concert is free with admission to the DIA, which is complimentary for residents of Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties. It is part of the museum’s Friday Night Live series. Registration is required at: https://dia.org/events/friday-night-live-eclipse-music

The concert is also part of the 23-24 DCWS Signature Series, a musical series presenting new and familiar works in unique venues across metropolitan Detroit. The series includes two additional concerts, one centered around Brahms’ Serenade on May 5 and another at the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival on June 9.
