Youth needed to help guide the future of the Douglas County Youth Initiative

Applications for youth members of the Advisory Board due Jan. 15, 2023, for 2023-24 school year

Pass along this message to a young person you know – Douglas County wants their perspective!

Applications are now being accepted for youth who want to represent their peers on the Douglas County Youth Initiative’s Advisory Board.

The Douglas County Youth Initiative is a collaboration among Douglas County, Douglas County Schools, Douglas County Libraries, the City of Castle Pines, the City of Lone Tree, the Town of Castle Rock, the Town of Parker, and the Highlands Ranch Metro District. The goal of this collaboration is to involve high school students in decisions that affect them.

Youth voices are needed on the Douglas County Youth Initiative Advisory Board. Students who will be in ninth through 12th grade in the fall of 2023 are invited to submit their application to serve as a Youth Advisor on the board.

Students should attend a public, charter, private or home school within Douglas County and be available for monthly meetings and periodic functions. Applications are available online and are due Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023. Two letters of recommendation are required as part of the application process and may not be from a parent/guardian.

Interviews will be conducted the week of Feb. 6, and members will be selected by early March.

The Douglas County Youth Initiative coordinates local youth-serving efforts and assesses the needs of the youngest residents by envisioning a community in which youth are involved, valued, productive, protected.

Programs of the Youth Initiative include Outstanding Youth Awards, the Youth Congress, and WrapAround. Resources are provided in the Youth and Family Resource Guide. The initiative is guided by a board of elected officials from each member organization.
