JD Vance doubled down on the GOP playbook of division. We’re not letting it slide.

Chicago, IL – In response to a debate where Minnesota Governor Tim Walz spoke directly to Illinoisans and the American people, the Democratic Party of Illinois released the following statement:

“On primetime television, JD Vance refused to acknowledge Donald Trump lost the 2020 general election, failed to shut down racist Republican lies about Ohio’s Haitian community, and attempted to rewrite history of the Trump Administration’s extreme policies. He also downplayed Trump’s remarks dismissing the costs of childcare for America’s working families and muddled their Party’s extreme stance on abortion.

“The bottom line is clear: JD Vance and Donald Trump want power for themselves, and we’re certain the IL GOP will fall in line.

“In contrast, Illinoisans saw Governor Tim Walz lay out his and Vice President Kamala Harris’ vision for a new way forward–one that protects our fundamental freedoms, strengthens our democracy, and ensures every person has the opportunity to get ahead. Illinois Democrats will continue working to send them both to the White House.”
